How Famco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

• Famco 304 stainless flex liners in the FSL series develop circumferential cracking at the flex points after 8-12 years in Denver’s freeze-thaw cycles. The 304 alloy is adequate for dry wood but marginal when condensation sits in the valleys between corrugations. We replace with 316Ti or 316L stainless, or source a DuraFlex equivalent with a tighter corrugation profile that drains better.

The cap looks intact from the ground while the mesh has separated from the frame. We document this with the camera from above, then replace with a Gelco or Copperfield stainless cap sized to the flue, not the chase top.
• Famco smoke chamber products used in some 1990s Denver tract builds delaminate where parging compound was troweled over a hot surface. The result is a rough, turbulent chamber that deposits creosote and restricts draft. We parge smooth with Chamber-Tech 2000 or remove and reline the chamber depending on access.
